basses

'99 MTD 5-string
(My main bass these days. I have recorded with it a lot and play it at home in New York.
I've also been playing it on the road with Santana over the last year or so)
Novation X-Station 25 - a really cool synth bass that I also use on the road.

Other basses:
Red Lakland 4-94 bass,
Brown Sunburst 5 string Lakland 4-94
'75 Fender Jazz
Azola Baby Bass (also out on the road with me - it's that bright red electric upright)
an original Ampeg 5-string Baby Bass (which needs work)
80's Tune Bass Maniac Deluxe 4-string

amps

Aguilar most of the time on the road with Santana.
Radial Technologies' Bassbone is a great D.I. that is also always out on the road with me.

In the studio I love Focusrite (I have a Liquid Channel) or Neve preamps, with a little light compression from an LA-2A, and that's about it. (When I get my way, of course.) I've also used a Marshall Major a couple of times on the Shaman album. Really cool sound, like an SVT on steroids!

effects and other stuff

Seem like these days, for about the last two years really, on the road with Santana, all I've been using is mainly my Digitech BNX-3 (a multi-effects unit), along with my Line 6 DL-4 (mostly just as a looper). I was using other things in addition for awhile, but found that live there was just too much noise added, which our house sound guy complained bitterly about.

I've also been using a Voodoo Lab Tremolo and a Digitech Whammy Pedal on my local gigs in NYC. Lotsa fun there!
